Course Description:
A survey of recent American history to 1877. Particular emphasis will be given to the emergence of the United States as a nation, issues of religion, personal freedom, the Industrial Revolution, and the Civil War.
Course Objectives:
Students will become familiar with US history to 1877 and learn to use methods of historical research. Their knowledge will be gauged by a series of exams and written projects.
